Lately…..if you've read my blog, you know that I am expecting!(yay!) If you've ever been pregnant(or VERY drunk) you know how annoying random nausea can be. It's been my personal mission to stop being nauseous by means of stuffing my face with whatever I suddenly have a yearning for.
I strongly believe that your body craves what it really needs when you're pregnant. For example my mouthwatering pregnancy meal of choice with my daughter was steak and peanut butter. This obviously means that I was lacking protein and my mind created the most protein filled concoction that it could muster up AND made it taste good.
This time around is a whole other ball game. I'm not really wanting to eat any meat at all…..BUT I would absolutely DIE if I didn't eat a potato. For the past week I've eaten a potato every single day…..and it's not a complete meal unless I eat the skin too. Once I devour my plain baked potato, I'm no longer feeling the need to hurl. HOW GREAT IS THAT!
Being the person that I am I have to Google the nutritive value of potato skins. Here's what I found at wisegeek:
"The potato, as well as the potato skin, is a great source of vitamin C, vitamin B6, copper, potassium, manganese, and dietary fiber. Potatoes and potato skins contain 18% of the recommended daily allowance of iron and 7.5 grams of protein which is rarely found in vegetables in such high concentrations. Potato
skins also contain a variety of phytonutrients which are a natural
source of antioxidants that help to prevent cellular deterioration of
the body. The phytonutrients found in the potato skins as well as the flesh include carotenoids, flavonoids, and caffeic acid."
From my knowledge B Vitamins help to lessen nausea…….potassium is great to alleviate those middle of the night charley horses that I'll eventually get once I'm too huge to see my toes……..
The lesson of the day……EAT MORE POTATOES!
